You just got the call. You booked the role. Don’t smile yet.
Press Roll. You get a 3-second count, then 10 seconds on camera. Turn your camera on for live feedback.
Turn on your camera for live feedback on blinks, brows, head and eyes. It runs on your device; nothing is recorded or uploaded.
This page can’t open a live camera here. Record a short take on your phone instead and it plays back in the monitor. The file stays on your device.
Take review
Measured on your device during the 10-second take. A rough guide to what the lens picks up, not a verdict on your acting.
Sc. 2MS · 35mmThe director · INT. Studio, Gurgaon — day
Pushpinder is a celebrity acting coach based in Gurgaon who has trained some of India’s best-known digital creators to work in front of a camera.
These guides put that coaching into pages you can keep, reread and come back to before your next audition or self-tape.
Sc. 3MCU · 50mmScreen test · four takes, ten seconds each
Four short scenes to play, ten seconds each. Turn on your camera above and you’ll stay in the corner of the screen while you play. How to make scenes like these read on camera is what the Toolkit teaches.
Your phone buzzes. You got the part. You’re in a quiet room.
Someone tells you they’re leaving. You don’t answer.
Someone leans in and tells you something about yourself.
You hear a voice you haven’t heard in years.
Sc. 3BMCU · 50mmDirector’s notes
Problems actors, coaches and casting people keep describing in public articles and forums, paraphrased with their sources. Next to each is the part of the guide that deals with it.
Five notes the lens gives actors. Each one is handled in The Camera Actor’s Toolkit.
“Too much.” Stage-sized acting reads as overacting in a close-up: a tight jaw, eyebrows that jump on every word, big gestures.
Frame sizes from wide to extreme close-up, so you know how big to play each shot. Stillness, breath and a 60-second face release to drop the tension before you roll.
Source · Michelle Danner Acting StudioEyeline is off. Casting sees actors looking at the wrong spot, darting their eyes or talking straight into the lens.
A full section on eyeline and blinking for close-ups, plus a self-tape setup chapter.
Source · StageMilk, after 900+ self-tapesWaiting for your cue instead of listening. Pauses show you thinking about your next line, not about what your partner just said.
The three layers of a line, the silence test and a method for marking your script, so you know what you’re playing when you aren’t speaking.
Source · Michelle Danner Acting StudioA self-tape means you direct yourself too. Tapes lose out on framing, bad sound and light, a fumbled opening or an ending that cuts off the moment.
A self-tape setup, a close-up checklist to run before you hit send, and two scene worksheets to prepare with.
Source · StageMilkWatching yourself back is uncomfortable, and it can make you so self-conscious that it hurts your work.
Ten short drills on your own phone, a seven-day plan and a practice log, so getting used to the lens happens in small, private doses.
Source · BackstageFour notes from the months between roles. Each one is handled in The Side Hustle Survival Kit.
The side job eats the audition. Actors need income that still lets them drop everything for a call time.
A three-part test for any side work, and 17 side hustles rated for flexibility and how well they fit with acting.
Source · BOOM MasterclassNot sure how to start earning. New actors in Mumbai are told to pick up part-time work like content writing, voice-over or events to cover costs while they audition.
A plan for your first paid gig in 14 days, with message templates and a formula for the lowest rate you should accept.
Source · Mumbai audition guide for new actorsPayments arrive late, then all at once. CINTAA’s president has called the TV industry’s 90-day payment cycle unfair to actors.
Three numbers to know, three accounts to keep, and a plan for what to do the day a big payment finally lands.
Source · NewKerala, July 2026Work comes and goes, so money is hard to plan and the craft slips during slow months.
A working actor’s week, a routine for staying sharp between jobs and a 90-day review to check where you are.

INT. Extreme close-up — no dialogue
Dialogue vs. Silence: non-verbal storytelling in extreme close-ups.
What it is. A practical workbook for acting in front of a camera, where the lens sits a few feet from your face and picks up every thought. It starts with how shot sizes change what the audience sees, then works down to the smallest things a close-up shows: your eyes, your blinks, your breath and the moments when you say nothing.
Who it’s for. Actors coming from theatre who keep hearing “smaller”, anyone sending self-tapes for auditions, and creators who want to look natural on screen.
How you use it. Read a chapter, run the matching drill on your phone, log it, then use the checklist and worksheets on your next real scene.

EXT. Between auditions — a lean month
Practical career management for keeping a creative life going when the work is slow.
What it is. A plan for the months between acting jobs. It helps you choose side work that pays without costing you auditions, land your first paid gig, and manage money that arrives unevenly, so you can keep going without leaving the craft.
Who it’s for. Working and aspiring actors with irregular income, people new to a city like Mumbai, and anyone who has turned down an audition because of a shift.
How you use it. Test your current side work, pick a better fit from the list, follow the 14-day plan with the templates, then set up the three accounts and come back for the 90-day review.
